Excel Prep Curriculum

BUILDING ON OUR EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY, EXCEL PREP USES THE CREATIVE CURRICULUM, A RESEARCH-BASED AND INNOVATIVE APPROACH TO LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT.
Our Learning Mechanics

Individualize instruction by understanding how children’s abilities progress and supporting them with unique progressions that show the typical development of skills from birth through kindergarten. Effectively scaffold learning experiences to respond to each child’s current strengths and needs with embedded guidance and strategies located on curricular resources.
We build children’s confidence, creativity, and critical thinking skills through hands-on, project-based investigations. Promote discovery and inquiry with opportunities for children to think critically and develop process skills with rich, hands-on investigations of relevant and interesting topics in the classroom. Reinforce learning with family-friendly activities designed for home.
We promote social–emotional (SEL) development with support from a curriculum focused on social–emotional, physical, and cognitive development; Teaching Guides with a special SEL learning focus, including The First Six Weeks: Building Your Preschool Classroom Community; Daily Resources designed to build SEL skills; and embedded coaching and support for SEL development.
Our Mandarin Chinese Immersion program provides students with a chance to obtain a second language with the purpose of becoming bilingual by their kindergarten year. Preparing our students to become respectful, contributing, knowledgeable and critically thinking global citizens. There are several variations of immersion. Excel Prep provides partial immersion, where about fifty percent of the time is spent in the second language. Our goal is to develop student’s proficiency in English, proficiency in Chinese, intercultural capacity and reaching academic performance at or above expectations. Our Mandarin Instructor is a Native Speaker and Certified Teacher.
Classroom interactions need to be engaging and thought-provoking to allow scholars better comprehension of subject matter. For students to be truly engaged in the classroom, educators must develop unique ways to sustain motivation and involvement. One way to do this is through co-curricular activities. Each Excel Prep scholars takes daily electives in Introduction to Music, Creative Movement, Yoga, Performing Arts, Robotics and/or Visual Arts. All Elective classes are taught during school in Mandarin.
