Excel Prep is a Mandarin Immersion and STEAM-based early learning institution, fully licensed by the State of Virginia Dept. of Education. Excel Preparatory Preschool Academy maintains Accreditation with NCA CASI, NWAC, and SACS CASI.
The academic program is based on the classical learning model and John Dewey’s theory that children learn best by doing. Our curriculum, The Creative Curriculum, is a comprehensive, research-based curriculum designed to help teachers implement developmentally appropriate practices and offer responsive daily routines and meaningful experiences that nurture learning and development.

This book was born out of Xue’s experience as an Excel Prep Teacher and mother. She understands that children (as well as caregivers) are often apprehensive about starting preschool. Her hope is that this book will help children and caregivers become more comfortable starting preschool by providing a fun (as well as accurate) depiction of daily life at Excel Prep. This book will provide you and your child with an introduction to many of the places and activities found at Excel Prep and around the world. An accomplished artist, Xue also illustrated the book with scenes taken from her experience and surroundings as a preschool teacher.
With so many activities to explore and friends to meet, Xue’s book will both prepare and excite your child for their first day of Excel Prep Academy. Along the way, you will find a number of parent-child interaction prompts as well as names of places and activities in both English and Chinese. As you read this book with your child, you will feel as though you are traveling with them through new adventures to preschool and beyond!
